Chankanaab Park is located right on the beach on the shores of  famous Cozumel Island at Kilometer 9. It is a beautiful water park that is an ideal spot for couples, friends, or families to spend a relaxing day of fun in the sun. In 1980 the park was decreed a National Park and thus an area where the flora and marine fauna are protected by the Mexican government. This means that it is prohibited to take anything out of the park, including all plants and animals. This way, future generations will have the opportunity to enjoy this miracle of nature just as we are today.
Chankanaab Park  offers its visitors several different activities to choose from. The warm, crystal clear waters of the Caribbean sea are a haven for scuba diving and snorkeling. The island of Cozumel is considered by many as one of the top five dive destinations on the planet, and the calm, shallow water at Chankanaab provides snorkelers access to the coral reef and its inhabitants. You will be amazed at the variety of fish and marine life you will encounter on your underwater excursions. Make sure you don’t forget your underwater camera if you are snorkeling or diving in shallow water, as you will want to take home some photos of your experience.
Chankanaab Park was at one time the home of  Mayan people who were fleeing the mainland to escape the invading Spanish during the Caste war. Later on the shores of this island were occasionally visited by maurading pirates who used the island as sort of a base for relaxation and for storing their supplies and cherished treasures. The word Chankanaab comes from the Mayan language; Chan (small) Kanaab (sea or ocean) making reference to the natural formation located in the interior of the Park.
For our visitor’s comfort we offer all of the standard amenities and then some.
