The famous Mayan ball game court in the Chichen Itza arqueological site will be recorded in three dimensions, it was revealed this week.

The purpose of this recording is to ease restauration and converation efforts of the arquitectuarl elements and freizes that constitute this Mayan monument, built in the year 864 DC.

The project will be carried out by experts from the National Anthropology and History Institute (INAH) and the Metropolitan Technological Univiersity (UTM) of Yucatan, who will utilize laser technology to carry this out.

The project will have an estimated cost of 1.5 million pesos, which is slightly over one hundred thousand dollars, granted by the National Council for Science and Technology (Conacyt).

The use of this specialized equipment will allow the scanning and the forming of a virtual 3-D model of this ball court.

Registrarán Juego de Pelota Maya en 3-D

El emblemático Juego de Pelota de la Zona Arqueológica de Chichén Itzá será grabado en formato tridimensional, se conoció esta semana.

El propósito del registro es facilitar las tareas de restauración y conservación de los elementos arquitectónicos y bajorrelieves que constituyen este monumento maya construido en 864 d.C.

Participarán en esta tarea expertos del Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) y la Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (UTM) de Yucatán, que se apoyarán en tecnología de rayos laser.

La iniciativa quedó formalizada con la firma de un convenio de colaboración entre el INAH y la UTM, en Mérida, Yucatán, en la cual se invertirán 1.5 millones de pesos, poco más de cien mil dólares, aportados por el Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (Conacyt).

Se trata de un proyecto que mediante el uso de equipo especializado, llevará a cabo el escaneo e impresión en tercera dimensión del Juego de Pelota.
