Visit the amazing site of Tulum

Tulum is one of the oldest known Mayan settlements for the Western world, with a record of it already registered in 1518 by a Spaniard who called it a city "as big as Seville" with a "tower" (surely the Castle) used by the local chiefs.

It is also one of the most outstanding ruins in the whole Mayan world, the only ones built right next to a coast, including the beautiful castle with an spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea.

Tulum is located 128 kilometers south of Cancun and it is very easy to access thanks to the first class road crossing the Mayan Riviera and which takes you straight to the Tulum ruins and town. It is also one of the most visited places in the state, making it very easy to arrange a trip (often sold in conjunction with Xel-Ha eco park).

The style of Tulum  is one of the most representative of the Northern Quintana Roo architecture built in the post-Classic period (1200-1500 AD). It is also remarkably well preserved, unlike many other settlements, with its castle and wall in prime condition, and with a number of murals still existing.

Besides its many interesting structures (such as the House of Columns, the House of Halach Uinik and others), it also has a tranquil beach right below it, perfect for swimming or sunbathing after visiting the ruins.

Tulum es uno de los primeros asentamientos Maya descubiertos por los españoles. Ya en 1518 un cronista escribía que ésta era una ciudad "tan grande como Sevilla."

También es uno de las ruinas más destacadas de todo el mundo Maya, la única construída justo frente a la costa, incluyendo un hermoso castillo con una vista espectacular del Caribe.

Tulum está ubicado 128 kilómetros al sur de Cancún y es muy fácil de llegar gracias al la carretera de primera clase que atraviesa a la Riviera Maya y que te lleva directo a las ruinas y al pueblo de Tulum. También es uno de los lugares más visitados del estado, por lo que es muy fácil organizar un viaje (generalmente vendido en paquete junto a una visita a Xel-Ha).

El estilo de Tulum es uno de los más típicos del norte de Quintana Roo, de la época del posclásico (1200-1500 DC). Es uno de los sitos mejor conservados, con el castillo y un muro en perfecto estado y con muchos murales aún existentes.

Además de tener varias estructuras fascinantes (como la Casa de las Columnas, la Casa de Halach Uinik y otors), también tiene una plácida playa a pasos del sitio, perfecta para bañarse o tomar sol después de visitar las ruinas.
