Last week was the culmination of the now traditional release of turtles at Xcaret eco-park, which this year set free 143 turtles with the participation of 1,200 children from public schools from across the state.

The turtles, which had been guests at Xcaret while they grew up, were released now that they had reached their reproductive age and had much larger chances of survival.

Five turtles each day were released during the season with the aid of the park's visitors and of local schools.

The turtle release is the final stage of the sea turtle research and preservation program that Xcarent has carried out for 17 years, since 1993, and which has achieved:

1. - Development of appropriate maintenance techniques

2.. - The opportunity to study the progression of diseases in captivity

3. - Study physiological and behavioral aspects

4. - The release of 2,148 green turtles (Chelonia mydas)

But perhaps the most important achievement has been the ability to raise environmental awareness in thousands of children and adults.

Cierra temporada de liberación de tortugas en Xcaret

La semana pasada culminó la ya tradicional liberación de tortugas en las playas del Parque Xcaret, que este año logró soltar a 143 quelonios con la participación de más de 1,200 niños de las escuelas públicas de Quintana Roo.

Ls tortugas marinas que fueron huéspedes de este parque ecológico durante un año regresaron a su hogar con mucho más probabilidades de llegar a su edad reproductiva. Las liberaciones se llevaron a cabo del 8 de febrero al 5 de marzo.

Se liberaron 5 tortugas diariamente con ayuda de visitantes a Xcaret y de las escuelas que acuden al programa de educación ambiental.

La liberación de las tortugas el la fase final del programa de iniciación, el cual representa un esfuerzo para apoyar la investigación y conservación de las tortugas marinas. En Xcaret  se realiza desde 1993 y durante estos 17 años han logrado:

1. El desarrollo de técnicas adecuadas de manutención.

2. La oportunidad de estudiar los procesos de enfermedades en cautiverio.

3. Estudiar los aspectos de fisiología y comportamiento.

4. La liberación de un total de 2,148 tortugas blancas (Chelonia midas).

Sin embargo, probablemente el logro más importante ha sido el tener la posibilidad de sensibilizar a miles de personas con respecto a la importancia de respetar y conservar a los seres vivos con quienes compartimos el planeta.

A huge meteor impact in the Yucatan was behind the extinction of 70 percent of life on this planet, scientist conclude

A team of scientists has agreed that a giant asteroid killed off dinosaurs and a majority of other species on Earth more than 65 million years ago.

The researchers analyzed evidence and agreed it supports a single-impact theory first proposed 30 years ago on the cause of the mass extinction.

Since 1980, scientists have gathered an overwhelming amount of evidence that shows a single asteroid about 6 miles in diameter and traveling at thousands of miles an hour, slammed into the Gulf of Mexico, said Richard Norris, a paleoceanographer at the University of California San Diego.

The impact caused a crater 24 miles deep and 125 miles wide, according to Norris, who was part of the research team.

The crater was discovered in 1991 in Chicxulub, Mexico, on the Yucatan Peninsula, said scientists who called it the "smoking gun" that backed up the asteroid theory.

Norris compared the asteroid's impact with a blast from 100 million tons of TNT.

"It's basically more powerful than all the atomic weapons on the planet going off all at once," he said.

El impacto de un asteroide en la Península de Yucatán marcó el fin de la llamada era Mesozoica y dio paso al Cenozoico hace 65.5 millones de años, afirmó el doctor Jaime Urrutia Fucugauchi, Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes 2009 e investigador del Instituto de Geofísica de la UNAM.

"Ningún otro evento pudo tener el impacto que este choque tuvo y que cambió la historia de la vida en la Tierra pasando de la era de los dinosaurios a la de los mamíferos", comentó el coautor de un estudio publicado hoy en la revista Science.
El evento que marcó el fin de la Era de los dinosaurios y permitió la evolución de los mamíferos ha generado un gran debate, pues existen grupos que afirman que el impacto de un asteroide en Chicxulub no tuvo la potencia para provocar un cambio global.
Así, un equipo de 41 investigadores de todo el mundo revisó detenidamente los trabajos científicos al respecto y concluyó que sólo el impacto de un asteroide causó el fin de la era geológica.
El equipo internacional de especialistas buscó evidencias en sedimentos y rocas que representan el límite entre el Mesozoico y el Cenozoico, que está marcado por una delgada capa de arcilla con altos contenidos de iridio, material relacionado con objetos celestes, así como rastros de carbonato de calcio y granito propios de la península de Yucatán.

The culinary delights of a typical Yucatecan kitchen come from a mouth-watering mixture of European and Mexican flavors.

A bit of history will explain this strong European influence. Once upon a time the Yucatecan peninsula was considered to be too far away and too difficult to reach from the rest of Mexico. Mountainous terrain and very poor roads kept the peninsula isolated.Having ports with commercial and cultural contacts with Europe (especially France), New Orleans, and Cuba, the Yucatecans were easily influenced by many aspects of these countries, such as dress, architecture and cooking, which explains why there is a lot of European flair in its cuisine.

One should also never understate the strong Mayan influence in the cooking.

Panuchos, salbutes:

Thick handmade tortillas variously covered with shredded turkey, avocado, refried black beans, pickled onions and other garnishes.

Poc-chuc:

Slices of lean pork marinated in local sour orange (naranja agria), a charred tomato sauce and a seasoning paste.

Cochinita pibil, pollo pibil:

Lean pork or chicken marinated in achiote paste (made with annatto seeds and diluted in naranja agria) wrapped in banana leaves and slow-cooked in a pit, barbecue or oven.

Sopa de lima:

The "national soup" of the region, made with turkey or chicken stock, limes and tortilla strips.

Papadzules:

Enchilada-like rolled corn tortillas stuffed with hard-boiled eggs and topped with pumpkin seed (pepitas semillas) paste and a light tomato sauce.

Budin de chayote:

A savoury pudding made with chayote squash (light green, pear-shaped), eggs, butter and crema, Mexico's crème fraîche.

Longaniza asada:

The mild pork sausages of the Yucatán, perhaps most famously made by the butchers of the colonial town of Valladolid.

Kibes:

Given significant Lebanese immigration over the years, the beloved meat and cracked-wheat patties of Beirut are also popular on the streets and cafés of Mérida or Cancun.

Ceviche, cóctel de camarón:

Although enjoyed throughout the world, the ceviche (seafood "cooked" in citrus juice, cilantro and chilies) and shrimp cocktails of the Yucatán are among the freshest and most toothsome anywhere.

Tulum hotels look positively at the plan to incorporate cenotes as one of the tourst attractions at this Caribbean vacational spot.

The communal land owners of San Juan revealed that they have advanced plans to incorporate ecotourism sites as part of the tourist offer in the Coba area.

These landowners have sought the aid of the local government to carry out the necessary works to provide visitors with good access and services.

Alfre

Alfredo Soto Martinez, head of the Tulum hotels, said that this is a good option that could mean guests staying for an extra night or two.

However, much work needs to be made in order to agree on how the cenotes will operate and how will they be linked to local hotels.

"Right away, this is a good option," he said. "What we are looking for is for guests to stay longer in Tulum and the best way is to offer entertainment alternatives, and undoubtedly local natural attractions are the best option."

Los industriales de la hotelería de Tulum ven con buenos ojos que los ejidatarios busquen incorporar los cenotes como un atractivo turístico a la oferta de este polo vacacional.

En días pasados se dio a conocer que ejidatarios de San Juan tienen ya avanzados los trabajos para incorporarse a la oferta de sitios ecoturísticos dentro de la zona de Cobá.

Para ello solicitaron a las autoridades municipales colaboración para realizar trabajos para ofrecer buen acceso y servicio para turistas.

Al respecto, el ex dirigente de los hoteleros, Alfredo Soto Martínez, dijo que se trata de una buena opción, que podría significar que el visitante se quede un día o dos más en los hoteles.

Sin embargo, habrá que ver las condiciones y el modo de operar, a fin de vincular a los hoteleros con este sector que busca beneficiarse con el turismo que arriba a Tulum.

"De entrada, es una buena opción, lo que estamos buscando es que el visitante demore más tiempo en Tulum y lo mejor es ofreciéndole alternativas de entretenimiento y sin duda que los atractivos naturales del municipio son la mejor opción", agregó.

Slightly away from the downtown area is a culinary treasure trove, a street lined with traditional restaurants

People in the know in Playa del Carmen, have been promoting what they call the 30th Ave. restaurant crawl. It's a pleasant five-block walk west from the beach along residential Calle 22 to Calle 30, a busy commercial thoroughfare lined with movie rental outlets, drugstores, hardware, and auto parts shops servicing Mexican residents. Although Playa is a new town, its working-class sections look much older.

La Bamba Jarocha occupies the corner spot, the name owing to its proprietor's roots in the nearby gulf coast state of Veracruz, a culinary hot spot with its own regal regional cuisine. As you might imagine, seafood is the main attraction here, wonderfully so.

Loncheria Dona Maria, a vision in bright blue paint, is a classic Yucatán diner, turning out finger-food favourites led by crisp, non-greasy salbutes, panuchos, chicken empanadas and tortas (sandwiches) along with rico caldos (stews) and refreshing licuados, the fruit smoothies made with milk or ice water.

Tacqueria El Pastorcito falls in a category of family cafés prized by Mexicans. The matinee idols at these places are the tacos al pastor, with tender, lean pork cut from a donair-like spit powered by a wood fire, topped with roasted pineapple and slapped on hot tortillas, with plenty of sides. The visuals in the large, balconied premises with Saltillo tile floors and a ramada-style roof are unforgettable, complete with acid green and orange walls, a trippy waterfall and Maya-esque murals. Bohemia, arguably Mexico's finest commercial brew, is sold here, along with passable Baja California wine, a relative rarity on the avenue.

Finally there's El Fogon across the street, another family beanery sporting equally impressive murals on a campesino country kitchen theme. In addition to great music, you can savor the remarkable tamales and the massive, signature tacos locos.

Un paseo de delicias en Playa del Carmen

Conocedores de Playa del Carmen han estado promocionando lo que le llaman la zona de restaurantes de la avenida 30. Se trata de un agradable sector de la calle, al oeste de la playa, pasando de la residencial calle 22 hasta la avenida 30, mucho más comercial.

Aquí en una esquina se encuentra La Bamba Jarocha, llamado así por la procedencia del dueño, desde el estado de Veracruz. Se trata de una perla culinaria, con cocina de alta calidad. Como se pueden imaginar, los mariscos son la principal especialidad.

Lonchería Doña María, es un clásico local yucateco, sacando los favoritos tradicionales incluyendo a los salbutes, panuchos, empanadas de pollo y tortas, además de ricos caldos y refescantes licuados.

Taqueria el Pastorcito cae en la categoría de locales de familia, tan apreciados por los mexicanos. Los ídolos vespertinos son los tacos al pastor, carne de cerdo calentada a la leña con piñas asadas y presenadas en una tortilla. El ambiente es inolvidable, con su techo de palapa, muros naranjas y murales maya.

Finalmente se encuentra El Fogón, otro lugar familiar, nuevamente con murales pero ofreciendo comida del centro de México. Junto a la excelente música, podrás saborear los deliciosos talmales y los enormes tacos locos.

A week of competition by players from all over the continent concluded this weekend

After a week of great activities, the 20th Latin American Table Tennis Championship came to an end at the Benito Juarez forum, in Cancun.

On the last day of competition, Mexican Yadira Silva became the individual champion, after defeating Ligia Silva of Brazil 4-2.

The Mexican had to overcome a 0-1 to win a second set by 11-9 and then took the lead 2-1 by winning the third set 11-5; the Brazillian then tied the game by winning 12-1', but the Mexican knew how to handle the pressure and won the fina set by partials 16-14 and 11-8.

Therefore the gold went to Mexico, silver for Brazil and in third place came Fabiola Ramos of Brazil and Lyanne Aponte of Puerto Rico.

For the mens, the champion was Song Liu of Argentina, who beat in four sets Cazuo Matsumoto of Brazil, who got silver after partials of 11-5, 11-5, 15-13 and 11-6. Third place was tied between Hugo Hoyama and Gustavo Tsudoi from Brazil.

Concluye campeonato de tenis mesa en Cancún

Tras una semana de gran actividad llegó a su fin el XX Campeonato Latinoamericano de Tenis de Mesa 2010, jugado en el Poliforum Benito Juárez, en Cancún.

En el último día de actividad, la mexicana Yadira Silva se proclamó campeona individual del XX campeonato Latinoamericano de Tenis de Mesa, tras vencer 4-2 a  Ligia Silva de Brasil.

La mexicana supo reponerse de un 0-1 al ganar el segundo set por parcial de 11-9, y se fue al frente 2-1, tras ganar el tercer set 11-5; pero la brasileña Ligia empató el encuentro al ganar 12-10, pero la mexicana supo manejar la presión y ganó el quinto y sexto sets por parciales de 16-14 y 11-8, respectivamente.

De esta manera México se quedó con el oro femenil en la categoría individual,  la plata para Brasil y en tercer lugar Fabiola Ramos de Brasil y Lyanne Aponte de Puerto Rico.

En lo que respecta a la rama varonil,  el campeón fue Song Liu de Argentina, quien venció en cuatro sets a Cazuo Matsumoto de Brasil, quien se quedó en segundo lugar con parciales de 11-5,11-5, 15-13 y 11-6; el tercer sitio fue para Hugo Hoyama  y Gustavo Tsudoi de Brasil.

Past the clear, blue-green waters, the white sand beaches and the high-rise resorts of Cancun and Cozumel lay the ancient cities that tell the true story of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

Breathtaking ruins, some still buried under tree roots and jungle floor, whisper stories of ancient civilizations. Well-preserved carvings depict sword-wielding warriors and Mayan gods.

Cities like Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Coba, Tulum and Muyil hold secrets that may never be completely uncovered. But the mysteries are half the lure.

Chichen Itza

Declared one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, Chichen is undoubtedly the most famous of the Mayan cities.

Most recognizable is its main pyramid, El Castillo, which is as much architectural calendar as it is wondrous landmark. Besides the main pyramid, other popular attractions include the ballcourt with its intricate stone carvings that tell tales of a deadly sport, the Temple of the Warriors featuring a stone carving of messenger of the gods Chac Mool and the Observatory, which was used for astronomical research.

Ek Balam

This city was originally built between 100 and 900 BC, but was only rediscovered in the late 1990s. Trees and shrubbery seen growing out of rocky hills are actually rooted in the remains of ancient buildings, swallowed hundreds of years ago by dense jungle.

Because the city has been buried for so long, what has been uncovered is remarkably well-preserved. Thatch roofs on Ek Balam's main pyramid cover restoration efforts on pristinely preserved white plaster sculptures once hidden by an exterior wall.

Coba

As it's one of the largest Mayan cities in the Yucatan, a trip to Coba could easily turn into an all-day experience. Ruins in various degrees of repair are around every bend in the winding dirt road that snakes through the jungle.

For a modest price, visitors to Coba can pay for a rickshaw ride to the ruins or rent a bike to make the sprawling city more manageable.

The Nohoch Mul pyramid the tallest in the Yucatan and available for climbing. Much energy is required to make the long journey to the top of this behemoth.

Tulum

Tulum's coastal location attracts visitors in droves. Perched atop limestone cliffs that overlook warm Caribbean water, Tulum is arguably the most picturesque site in the Yucatan.

Tulum once served as sort of a primitive lighthouse, guiding ships through dangerous coral reef clusters not far from shore. Its structures are, relatively speaking, small and unimpressive, but the grounds are beautifully landscaped with blooming bougainvillea spilling over trellises and gravel paths guiding the crowds of tourists from one building to the next.

Muyil

Muyil isn't the most spectacular of the ruins in the Yucatan, but it may be the most peaceful. The site is off the radar for most of the tourists crowding nearby Tulum's grounds. It's rare to pass another visitor here.

A walking trail connects the ruins at Muyil to a beautiful green lagoon, making it likely that Muyil was once used as a trading post. For a reasonable price, local guides give boat tours into the crystal clear waters situated within the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve.

Misterios de los Mayas

Más allá de las aguas turquesas, las blancas playas y los modernos edificios de los hoteles de Cancún y Cozumel se encuentran las antiguas ciudades que atestiguan la verdadera historia de la Península de Yucatán.

Sorprendentes ruinas, muchas aún enterradas bajo raíces de árboles y jungla, cuentan las historias de las civilizaciones antiguas, el aún desconocido mundo maya.

Ciudades como Chichen Itzá, Ek Balam, Coba, Tulum y Muyil guardan secretos que quizá nunca se descubrirán, pero este misterio nos llama aún más.

Chichen Itzá

Declarada una de las nuevas Siete Maravillas del Mundo, Chichen es sin duda una de las ciudades mayas más famosas.

Lo más destacado es su pirámide principal, el castillo, que funciona no sólo como maravilla arquitectónica, sino que además es un calendario. Otras estructuras destacadas incluyen el juego de la pelota, el templo de los guerreros y el observatorio.

Ek Balam

Originalmente construida entre el 100 y el 900 DC, esta ciudad recién fue recuperada en la década pasada. Los árboles y otra vegetación que se ve salir de las colinas tienen muchas veces sus raíces dentro de los edificios antíguos, que fueron tragados hace siglos por la selva.

Debido a que esta ciudad permaneció inexplorada por tanto tiempo, se encuentra actualmente muy bien preservada, especialmente las bellas esculturas descubiertas en la pirámide principal.

Coba

Como una de las ciudades mayas más grandes, visitar Cobá bien puede tomar todo un día. Ruinas en diversos grados de conservación se encuentran a cada vuelta de este largo camino que atraviesa la selva.

Por una módica suma, visitantes pueden pagar por viaje en triciclo por las ruinas o pueden arrendar una bicicleta y así mejor cubrir las distancias.

La pirámide Nohoch Mul es la más alta en Yucatán y está disponible para escalar. Eso sí, se necesita mucha energía para subir los 120 escalones de este titán.

Tulum

Su ubicación en la costa atrae a un sinnúmero de visitantes. Enclavado en lo alto de un acantilado con una preciosa vista del mar caribe, Tulum es quizá el lugar más bello de toda la península.

Tulum fungía antiguamente como un faro, guiando a las embarcaciones mayas alrededor de los arrecifes de coral. Las estructuras  no son tan impresionantes, pero su entorno es espectacular.

Muyil

No son las ruinas más llamativas de la región, pero probablemente son las más apacibles. Este sitio se encuentra fuera del típico circuito de turistas que acuden a las ruinas cercanas en Tulum.

Un camino además conecta a Muyil con una hermosa laguna verde. Por un módico precio, guías pueden llevarte por las ruinas y además por el paraíso que es la reserva de la biósfera Sian Kaán.

When heading the formal conclusion of the Cancun and Playa del Carmen beach restoration project, Mexican president Felipe Calderon stated that the Federal Government has given the recovery of tourism the highest priority, since more tourism means more investment and more employment.

"The Federal Government has not stopped working day after day, shoulder to shoulder with the business sector. Thanks to the united efforts of workers, the business sector and authorities, today the tourism industry is clearly on the road to recovery," he said.

The beach recovery project meant a 400 million peso government investment in order to restore 14 kilometers of beaches to their former glory, before hurricanes narrowed them.

Calderon explained that this is one of the many efforts carried out to boost tourism, which include infrastructure investment, stimulating more air connections with airlines, and more investment projects like the one inaugurated here, all over the country.

Finally, the president invited everyone to help preserve the beauty of local beaches, for the enjoyment of visitors and locals.

"You have the full support of the Federal Governent to continue to promote Cancun as the most important destination in the country and one of the top destinations in the world."

Presidente mexicano inaugura nuevas playas cancunenses

Al encabezar la entrega de la Obra de Recuperación de los Arenales de Cancún y Playa del Carmen, el Presidente de la república, Felipe Calderón afirmó que el Gobierno Federal ha asignado al rescate del turismo la más alta prioridad, ya que significa más inversión y empleos para los mexicanos.

"El Gobierno Federal no ha dejado de trabajar día tras día, y con codo con codo con el sector empresarial y turístico del país. Y gracias a la suma de esfuerzos entre trabajadores, empresas y autoridades, hoy la industria turística está claramente en un camino de recuperación", subrayó.

De gira por Cancún, Quintana Roo el Titular del Ejecutivo comentó que esta recuperación de arenales consta de 14 kilómetros de playas y se invirtieron, de parte del Gobierno Federal, 400 millones de pesos.

Además, explicó que para consolidar el proceso de recuperación del turismo su Administración ha actuado en diversos frentes, como la inversión en infraestructura, para hacer más accesibles los centros turísticos; la conexión de los destinos, para diversificar la oferta, y el impulso a más proyectos de este tipo en todo el país.

El Presidente Calderón invitó a todos a conservar la belleza de las playas y los llamó a promoverlas  para el disfrute de los visitantes nacionales y extranjeros.

"Les reitero que cuentan con todo el apoyo del Gobierno Federal para seguir proyectando a Cancún como el destino turístico más importante del país y uno de los mejores del mundo", destacó.

Unbeaten throughout, 28 year old Ligia Silva was the backbone of success for Brazil as they regained the Women's Team crown at the Latin American Championships in the city of Cancun on Tuesday 2nd March 2010.

Alongside 20 year old Jessica Yamada and 22 year old Karin Sako, Brazil beat defending champions Chile at the final hurdle by three matches to one.

The success ended a two year drought; the last occasion that they had won the title was in 2007 in Guarulhos the town which is the home for São Paulo's international airport.

Maria Paulina Vega, who received silver, also got some news that were bigger than the sport. The Chilean comes from the city of Concepción, which was devasted last week by an 8.8 magnitude earthquake, and after days of worrying, she finally got word that her family was OK.

"I felt something inside me and I let it go, the earthquake in my country has been troubling me so much", explained Maria Paulina Vega. "My father was missing, only today he appeared, alive and in good health, thanks to God"

It was a massive relief for Maria Paulina Vega who has been in Cuba for the past two weeks preparing for the Latin American Championships.

"I saw on the television the bridge which is two blocks from where I live totally broken", concluded Maria Paulina Vega. "That was a great shock."

For the men's, twenty-four year old Gustavo Tsuboi was the Brazilian hero after he captured the gold.

In a tension packed Men's Team final against traditional South American rivals, Argentina, he beat the more experienced Liu Song in a nail-biting full distance five games encounter to secure gold for Brazil.

The match scores level at two-all; Gustavo Tsuboi won an absolutely classic duel.

Currently occupying the no.191 spot on the ITTF Men's World Rankings, he overcame Liu Song, presently listed at no.104, and 13 years the senior of the Brazilian, by the margin of 11-6, 10-12, 5-11, 11-6, 12-10.

En el Poliforum Benito Juárez se bailó samba, luego que Brasil ganara la modalidad de equipos, tanto en la rama varonil como en la femenil.

Las brasileñas Ligia Silva, Jessica Yamada y Karin Sako vencieron 3-1 a sus rivales de Chile, equipo encabezado por la destacada medallista panamericana Berta Rodríguez y escoltada por María Paulina Vega y Blanca Durán.

En el primer juego Silva no tuvo problema para poner a su equipo al frente tras vencer a Rodríguez 3-0 (11-8,11-6 y 12-10); pero las chilenas empataron el marcador a uno tras ganar Vega su encuentro 3-2 (11-9,11-13,11-8,11-9 y 13-11) a Yamada.

High hotel occupancies are expected this month as last year's health scare and economic crisis become a memory

Mexico's spring break king — Cancun — is rebounding quickly from last year's double blow to its tourism industry caused by the country's swine flu scare and a global economic crisis.

Those worries couldn't compete this year against Mexico's cheap airfare from the United States and phenomenal package deals that include the popular all-you-can-drink enticements.

February saw 85 percent of its 28,000 rooms filled, a sign of Cancun's speedy recovery from 2009, when 1 million fewer visitors came than in a typical year. The relatively high occupancy seen in February is expected to go even higher in March when more universities are on spring break.

"We're back to normal levels after having seen tourism practically paralyzed last year," said Quintana Roo state assistant tourism secretary Dario Flota.

Vacaciones ayudan a la recuperación de Cancún

Cancún, el rey de las vacaciones de primavera ("Spring Break") en México, se está recuperando rápidamente del golpe doble que sufrió su industria turística el año pasado causado por la emergencia sanitaria y la crisis financiera mundial.

Esas preocupaciones no pudieron competir con las muy buenas ofertas aéreas para volar hacia México, y los populares paquetes vacacionales para estudiantes, que por supuesto incluyen la popular barra libre.

Este febrero se vio una ocupación de cuartos del 85 por cienteo, de un total de 28 mil habitaciones en este destino, una excelente señal de la rápida recuparación de Cancún desde el 2009, cuando se recibieron un millón menos de visitas que de costumbre. Esta ocupación se espera que aumente aún más este mes a medida que más universidades entren en periodo vacacional.

"Estamos de regreso en nuestros niveles normales después de haber visto al turismo casi paralizado el año pasado," declaró Darío Flota, asistente de la Secretaría de Turismo de Quintana Roo.

A haven for howler monkeys and many other species, this Mayan town offers a front row seat to the spectacle of nature

Located just over 60 kilometers northeast of Tulum is the town of Punta Laguna. Punta Laguna is a small Mayan village that sits amidst the jungle in a 5,000 hectare, government-protected nature preserve known in the modern Mayan language as the Otoch Ma'ax Yetel Kooh, or House of the Monkey and Puma. This area is the natural habitat of spider and howler monkeys, coatis--a sort of possum-nosed raccoon and a variety of birds. Local residents conduct guided tours of the area at very reasonable prices.

Visitors to Punta Laguna should not expect modern amenities or the party atmosphere of nearby Cancun. Electricity is a newcomer here, but the inspiring scenery and wildlife more than make up for it. Most guides speak Mayan and Spanish, though a few speak English. They have received training from the researchers who observe the monkey populations.

Also, when visiting this natural preserve, stopping by the ruins of Coba are a must. Coba used to  be a large city of over 50 thousand and it shows in its formidable buildings that rival the best of the peninsula.

Las maravillas de Punta Laguna

Ubicado a sólo 60 kilómetros al noreste de Tulum se encuentra el pueblo de Punta Laguna. Punta Laguna es una población maya que se encuentra en medio de la jungla, en una reserva natural de 5 mil hectáreas conocida con el nombre maya de Otoch Ma'ax Yetel Kooh, lo que significa "La Casa del Mono y el Puma."

Esta área es el hábitat natural de los monos arañas, los monos aulladores, los coatís (un tipo de mapache narigudo), una enorme variedad de aves. Residentes de Punta Laguna ofrecen visitas guiadas por precios bastante razonables.

Aquellos que visiten Punta Laguna no pueden esperar servicios modernos o un ambiente festivo como en Cancún. La electricidad es una novedad en el pueblo, pero esto se compensa por el hermoso ambiente y la vida salvaje. La mayoría de los guías hablan maya y español y han recibido entrenamiento de los expertos que observan las poblaciones de monos.

Además, cuando se visita esta reserva, se puede aprovechar para visitar las ruinas de Cobá, ubicadas a poca distancia. Coba solía ser una gran urbe maya, con más de 50 mil habitantes, hecho que queda en evidencia al admirar las formidables construcciones y pirámides que rivalizan con las más importantes de la peninsula.

The Inter-American Development Bank will meet with the financial heads of 48 countries, an event that will encourage investment projects for the region.

The meeting of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) that will take place at Cancun Center from March 20 to the 23rd will bring together over 6 thousand people including the 48 heads of the central banks of the member countries, as well as the secretaries or ministers of finance from these nations; yet another high-level event hosted by the Mexican Caribbean.

Sergio Hidalgo Monroy, a Mexican Secretary of Finance official, said that the last IADB meeting held in Mexico took place in 1994 in Guadalajara.

In addition to the important meeting, Cancun will become a financial cluster because of all the parallel encounters between all the financial and development institutions from Europe and Asia, interested in investing in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Among the topics to be discussed during the meeting are the possibility of raising the capital of this bank in order to double its loan capacity, a crucial goal for the development of the region.

Currently, the Inter-American Development Bank has a total capacity of 100 billion dollars, and Mexico is hoping to acheive an 80 to 100 percent increase in this capital in order for the bank to be able to finance more infrastrucutre works, as well as encouraging commerce and aiding the private sector.

Reunión de BID en Cancún

La reunión del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), que se va a realizar en el Centro de Convenciones de Cancún del 20 al 23 de marzo de los corrientes, va a concentrar a 6 mil personas que asistirán junto con los 48 gobernadores de bancos centrales de los países miembros, así como los secretarios o ministros de finanzas de dichas naciones, siendo este uno de los eventos que difícilmente se pueda volver a repetir en México, afirmó el Oficial Mayor de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP Sergio Hidalgo Monroy,

Dijo que además de la derrama turística, este destino turístico se honra en ser sede de tan importante reunión después de que la última celebración tuviera lugar en Guadalajara en 1994, además de que esta reunión se va a convertir en un "cluster financiero".

Lo anterior debido a que de forma paralela a la reunión del BID a la que asistirán los 48 gobernadores y ministros de economía de cada país, se darán cita todas las instituciones financieras, de inversión y desarrollo de Europa y Asia, interesadas en invertir en la región del Caribe y América Latina.

De los temas centrales que discutirán durante la del BID, serán la posibilidad de aumentar el capital del Banco para duplicar su capacidad de préstamo a la región.

Actualmente el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo cuenta con un capital total de 100 mil millones de dólares, por lo que es esperan lograr entre un 80 y un 100 por ciento de aumento, a fin de poder duplicar su actividad, centrada principalmente en los rubros de infraestructura, fomento al comercio y apoyo al sector privado.

This region is part of what was once, and in a cultural sense it is still, the Mayan world. These were the Mayans.

Like the Egyptians, the Mayas are well known for pyramids, which vary in shape depending on where they were built. The Maya occupied the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, where Cancun is located today.
The civilization was formed as early as 1500 BC.

The Mayan religion centered around the worship of many nature gods. Their amazing architecture remain as great ruins at centers they used for religious ceremonies, including Palenque, Uxmal,  Copán, Tikal and Chichén Itzá. 

They developed astronomy, calendar systems and writing. They built observatories to watch stars.  They were highly skilled as potters and weavers.

About AD 300 to 900  the major centers including Palenque, Tikal, and Copán were mysteriously abandoned. The reasons are still unknown. A few centers continued until the Spanish arrived in the 16th century.

Today the Maya homeland is being studied by archaeologists.  They unearth buildings to reconstruct local cultures. They date and compare artifacts to determine where the Maya traded and what their daily lives were like.

They work with botanists, who study ancient pollen to detect changes in the climate and environment, and art historians who examine art and architecture.

La cultura maya condensada

Como los egipcios, los mayas son conocidos por sus pirámides, las que varían en estilo dependiendo de dónde se construyeron. Los mayas ocuparon la península de Yucatán en México, en dónde hoy está situada Cancún.

La civilización ya estaba formada para el 1500 AC.

La religión Maya estaba centrada en el culto a diversos dioses ligados a la naturaleza. Su sorprendente arquitectura está testimoniada en los centros urbanos de los sitios arqueológicos, que tenían fines ceremoniales, incluyendo Palenque, Uxmal, Copan, Tikal y Chichen Itzá.

Ellos cultivaron la astronomía, el calendario y la escritura, entre otras ramas. Construyeron observatorios para observar las estrellas y eran hábiles en la orfebrería y en la confección de cestas.

En el periodo ente el 300 y 900 DC, los principales centros mayas, incluyendo Palenque, Tikal y Copán fueron misteriosamente abandonados. Los motivos siguen siendo desconocidos. Unas cuantas urbes continuaron hasta la llegada de los españoles en los inicios del siglo XVI.

Hoy, el mundo maya es el enfoque de los estudios de muchos arqueólogos. One of the most fun times of the year is coming up, but it is good to keep in mind some basic safety advice.

One of the most anticipated times of the year for a college student is spring break. It's an excuse to leave town, hang out with friends and forget about class.

Unfortunately, spring break also brings potential safety risks. No matter where you plan to travel, keep yourself and your home safe with the following spring break safety tips:

Be sure to travel with people you know and trust. Whether it's a student group or a few close friends, you'll want to be with people who look out for your safety.

Increase your home security before leaving town. College towns can become burglary hotspots during spring break. Lock all your doors before you leave. If you live in a house or own an apartment, consider installing a home security system.

Keep your family informed about your travel plans. Don't make travel plans without keeping your parents or close friends in the loop. If you have a set schedule, give them a copy of it. This way, they will know how to reach you in case of an emergency.

Also, consider keeping a card with emergency contacts in your wallet. This could include your home phone number or parents' cell numbers.

Stick with your group. Never leave the group you're with on spring break - even if it's the middle of the day. Choose at least one person you plan to stick with the entire time, although the larger the group, the better.

When you arrive at your destination, choose a meeting spot where everyone will know to go in case someone gets lost or splits up from the group.

Spring break is a time for fun with friends and fellow students. But when you leave home, security and safety should be a top concern. Staying safe will ensure you return to school with great memories from spring break 2010.

Consejos para tus vacaciones de primavera

Una de las fechas más anticipadas para un universitario son las vacaciones de primavera. Es una ocasión perfecta para salir al mundo, pasarla bien con los amigos, y olvidarse de las clases.

Pero, claro, es importante minimizar riesgos. Sin importar donde desees viajar, ten en cuenta los siguientes consejos de seguridad:

Asegúrate de viajar con gente que conozcas y confíes. Ya sea un grupo estudiantil o algunos amigos cercanos, es bueno estar con gente que se interese por la seguridad de uno.

A team of Mexican underwater archeologists found 120 skeletons inside a "cenote, or water sinkhole, that was 30 meters wide.

The cenotes were used by the Mayans as a fresh water source, but in many occasions they were considered as the entrance to the underworld, and were used for human sacrifices, mostly women, although also some men captured in combat.

The finding, at the "Las Calaveras" (the skulls) cenote near Chetumal, in the southern portion of Quintana Roo, revealed what could be the "biggest and best preserved prehispanic funerary deposit in the Mayan world."

The age of these remains is much older than those found in other Mayan cities from the Classical period (125-236 AD) such as Tikal in Guatemala, or Chichen Itza, in the neighboring state of Yucatan.

This cenote has been explored by experts since 2007, thanks to the support of the National Geographic Institute.

The Mexican National Anthropology and History Institute (INAH) estimates that another 30 or even 80 skeletons could still lie unrescued at the bottom of the cenote, corresponding to the second century of our era.

Importante hallazgo maya en un cenote

Un equipo de arqueólogos subacuáticos mexicanos halló 120 osamentas dentro de un "cenote" o pozo de 30 metros de diámetro.

Los cenotes servían para suministrar agua, pero en algunos casos eran considerados la "entrada al reino de los muertos" donde se arrojaba sobre todo a mujeres, aunque ahora se sabe que también a hombres capturados en combate, como sacrificio a los dioses.

El hallazgo en el cenote "Las Calaveras", cerca de Chetumal, en el estado sureño de Quintana Roo, revela que podría ser el depósito funerario de la época prehispánica "mejor conservado y el de mayor concentración de esqueletos humanos del área maya".

La antiguedad de estos restos humanos supera al de los cenotes de las grandes metrópolis mayas del período Clásico (125-236 d.C.) como Tikal, en Guatemala o Chichén Itzá, en el estado mexicano de Yucatán.

Desde 2007 se realiza la exploración del cenote con apoyo de expertos de National Geographic.

El Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) estima que aún podría haber otras 30 osamentas e incluso hasta 80 que aún no han sido rescatadas y que corresponden a los años 125-236 de nuestra era.

The Cancun and Isla Mujeres Underwater Art Museum is a step closer to becoming the world's largest underwater museum by adding three new sculptures.

The sculptures - Dream Collector, Man on Fire and The Gardener of Hope – were carefully submerged to a variety of different depths throughout the national park.

Created by British/Guyanese artist Jason de Caires Taylor, the sculptures were placed near natural reefs and marine life in order to create an artificial habitat.

Dream Collector features dozens of bottles containing messages of encouragement sent from around the world, while Man on Fire has 75 holes planted with fire coral.

One of the messages reads: "May our hearts, never become as hard as our heads," by Roberto Diaz, President of the Cancun Underwater Museum.

The Gardener of Hope depicts a young girl lying on a garden patio.
The sculptures have been created with PH neutral concrete that will allow algae and small invertebrates to flourish, boosting the local ecosystem. The appearance of the sculptures will change over time as the coral reefs and marine life grow.

The museum plans to install more than 400 concrete sculptures off the coast of Mexico from artists around the world.

Each individual work of art will be life-sized and will consist of themed galleries such as "The Quiet Evolution."

Se añaden esculturas al Museo Submarino

El Museo de Arte Submarino de Cancún e Isla Mujeres está aún más cerca de volverse el museo submarino más grande del mundo, luego de que se añadieran tres nuevas esculturas.

Las esculturas, Coleccionista de Sueños, Hombre en Llamas y El Jardinero de la Esperanza, fueron cuidadosamente sumergidos a distintas profundidades en este parque nacional.

Creados por el artista británico/guyanés Jason de Caires Taylor, las esculturas se colocaron cerca de el arrecife de coral para así formar un hábitat natural .

Las esculturas están hechas de concreto con pH neutro, lo que permitirá que algas y otros invertebrados puedan utilizarlas sin problema, ayudando al ecosistema local. La apariencia de las esculturas cambiará con el tiempo a medida que les crezcan corales y otras formas de vida submarina.

El museo planea instalar más de 400 esculturas de concreto de artistas de todo el mundo. Cada obra será de tamaño real e irán ordenadas de acuerdo a galerías, tales como "La Evolución Silenciosa."

Unlike Cancun, which was more or less built from scratch for tourism purposes in the 1970s, Isla Mujeres retains an old-school feel, despite a bank, a 7-Eleven and lots of shops selling tourist fare, including colourful hammocks and glazed plates and figurines bearing Mayan inscriptions.

Families have lived on the island for generations and, walking through its grid of narrow streets, you can get an intriguing glimpse of the locals' laid-back lives.

The west coast is reasonably developed, with a string of attractions, including a turtle conservation farm, zip-lines and snorkelling zones, while at the island's narrow, surf-pounded southern point is a sculpture park, which faces the ruins of an ancient Mayan temple.

The Eastern side is much less developed and wilder here, not just inland, where there are more humble tin shacks than fancy hotels, but offshore, where the waves are distinctly choppy.

The island's history goes some way to explaining how it got its rather exotic name. When the Spanish conquistadors first landed here in the 16th century, they found clay figurines depicting Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of fertility, reason, medicine and moon. Ever pragmatic in their name choices, the Spanish decided Isla Mujeres fitted the bill perfectly.

That's one theory, at least. Another is that famous pirates such as Welshman Henry Morgan left not just their loot on the island but also their women, for safekeeping, while they were away plundering the Spanish-held cities of the New World.

A diferencia de Cancún, que fue básicamente construido desde cero en los años 70s, Isla Mujeres retiene ese ambiente tradicional mexicano, pese a los servicios modernos como bancos, servicentros o tiendas de souvenirs, en las que se pueden encontrar hamacas coloridas y figuritas mayas.

Las familias locales han vivido en la isla por generaciones, y al caminar por sus estrechas calles, uno puede echar un vistazo a su tranquila vida.

La costa oeste de la isla está razonablemente desarrollada y contiene varias atracciones, incluyendo una granja de tortugas, poleas y zonas para esnorquelear mientras que en la delgada punta sur se encuentra un parque de esculturas mirando las ruinas de un templo maya.

El lado este está mucho menos desarrollado, no sólo en el interior, en las que se ven más casas que hoteles, pero en la costa. El mar también es más salvaje de este lado.

La historia de la isla explica su exótico nombre. Cuando los conquistadores españoles descendieron en la isla en el siglo XVI, se encontraron con muchas figuras de arcilla de Ixchel, la diosa maya de la fertilidad, razón, medicina y luna. En vista de esto, los españoles bautizaron la isla como Isla Mujeres.

Esa es la teoría más común, aunque otros dicen que piratas famosos como Henry Morgan dejaban no sólo su botín en la isla, sino además sus mujeres, mientras atacaban la costas caribeñas.

The Chicxulub Crater is approximately 180 km in diameter and 10 km deep. The crater was formed about 65 million years ago when a very large celestial body impacted what is now known as the Yucatan Peninsula.

The Chicxulub Crater was formed by an impactor (either an asteroid or a comet) that was roughly 10 km in diameter and it hit with 100 million megatons of force. That is enough to make the bombs dropped during WWII look like bottle rockets. More than 50% of the worlds different species were killed off because of the climate changes caused by the dust that was thrown into the air. Nearly all of the dinosaurs eventually died from all of the changes that this impact event had on the Earth's environment. Acid rain and fires would have finished those that did not die from the initial impact.

The Chicxulub crater was originally discovered by Glen Penfield in the 1970's. He was searching for oil in the vicinity. Initially, Mr. Penfield could not find enough evidence to support his theory that this was an impact crater. It wasn't until he made contact with Alan Hildebrand that he was able to confirm Chicxulub as an impact crater. The evidence that he finally submitted for approval included: shocked quartz, tektites, and a magnetic anomaly in the area. Isotope analysis and the age of the rims rocks show that the crater is around 65 million years old. Another interesting fact about the Chicxulub crater is that it has a ring of sinkholes(cenotes) around its rim.

The importance of the Chicxulub crater can not be ignored. The changes brought about in evolution alone stagger the mind. The number of species that never redeveloped and the number of potentially intelligent creatures that were lost may never be known. That one event could be the reason that humans evolved to be the only self aware species on this planet.

El misterio del cráter de Chicxulub

El cráter de Chicxulub mide aproximadamente 180 km de diámetro y 10 kilómetros de profundidad. El cráter se formó hace 65 millones de años cuando un cuerpo celeste muy grande chocó contra lo que ahora se conoce como la península de Yucatán.

El objeto que chocó contra la tierra (ya sea un asteroide o cometa) tenía cerca de diez kilómetros de diámetro y golpeó con 100 millones de megatones de fuerza, algo que minimiza incluso el total de las bombas lanzadas durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

A very long drive or a short flight away from Cancun, in the southern state of Chiapas, lies one of the most amazing sites of the Mayan world: Bonampak, renowned mainly because of its breathtaking frescoes.

Bonampak is a city of the Maya Early Classic period peaking from 200 to 400 A.D. The earliest written date for this site was found in its sister city of Yaxchilan on lintel 49 giving the year 409 A.D. Bonampak´s great plaza is astounding in its sheer mass and one of the largest in the region, measuring over 100 yards. The Mayan ruins at Bonampak are not fully excavated, much still covered by rainforest. This is a beautiful site with a very unique and interesting feel.

One of the most amazing finds at Bonampak are the three rooms of murals depicting important ceremonial and political events. Here we find some of the best preserved examples of the painted art of the Maya.

These exquisite murals changed the long held notion that the Maya only sacrificed warriors in the ball games and that they were for the most part a peaceful people. The murals tell a much bloodier story.

It had long been thought that the Maya only became warlike and began capturing and sacrificing enemies when the Toltec moved in from central Mexico, bringing their savage influence. The murals at Bonampak, however, were painted before the Toltec arrived and they show a Maya king of Bonampak who is the victor of war. The captured prisoners prostrate before the king, their fate sealed in sacrifice to the gods. We see warriors descend on farmers working in the field. The paintings then show the victory celebration that ensues after this successful campaign.

Los sorprendentes murales de Bonampak

A una gran distancia por carretera o a un corto vuelo desde Cancún, en el sureño estado de Chiapas, yace uno de los más sorprendentes sitios del mundo maya: Bonampak, famoso principalmente por sus increíbles frescos.

Bonampak es una ciudad del periodo temprano clásico, que se extiende del 200 al 400 DC, La fecha más temprana en la que se menciona esta ciudad se encuentra en su urbe hermana de Yaxchilán y corresponde al 409 DC. La gran plaza de Bonampak asombra por su enorme tamaño, uno de los más grandes de la región, de más de 100 metros. El sitio no está totalmente explorado y aún gran parte de él está sumergido en la jungla, lo que le da un ambiente peculiar.

Por mucho tiempo se creyó que los mayas sólo se volvieron un pueblo guerrero cuando los Toltecas llegaron a la región desde el centro de México, pero los murales, pintados antes de su llegada, muestran al rey de Bonampak como victorioso tras una guerra. Sus prisioneros yacen postrados a sus pies, su destino ya sellado: sacrificio para los dioses. También vemos a guerreros atacando a campesinos en su faena. Las pinturas muestran la celebración de victoria luego de una campaña exitosa.

Located 17 kilometers north of Merida and considered as one of the most ancient Mayan cities, it's name means "where there is writing on flat stones."

During the exodus carried out by the ancient Mayans to the north of the Yucatan peninsula, they began to establish themselves in the places they thought they could develop, and Dzibilchaltun was one of those locations.

This site is notable because of the high level of art seen in all of the constructions. Most notable are the engravings that are still in excellent condition and which narrate the story of Kukulcan, the winged serpent.

During the Spanish invasion, many buildings were destroyed, often to be used to build new constructions. This is especially evident in the European-style parish located at the site and built using stones from a pyramid.

Dzibilchaltun as well as having a very atrractive town, also has a cenote where people can cool off and bathe.

Dzibilchaltún, belleza maya en Yucatán

 Localizada a 17 km al norte de Mérida y considerada una de las ciudades mayas más antiguas, su nombre significa "donde hay escrituras sobre piedras planas".

Durante el peregrinaje que realizaron los antiguos mayas hacia el norte de la Península de Yucatán, fueron asentándose en las partes donde creyeron que podían desarrollarse y Dzibilchaltún fue uno de esos lugares donde se establecieron. De acuerdo con el estado de arte que habían alcanzado fueron construyendo sus edificios. Notorios son los grabados que aún existen haciendo alusión al personaje Kukulkán.

Ahí mismo, durante la invasión de los españoles fueron destruyendo muchos edificios antiguos y construyendo otros, es fácil notar la capilla de origen europeo, ahí mismo donde está la ciudad de Dzibilchaltún.

Cuenta con un hermoso cenote en el que se puede uno bañar.

An interesting Mexican recipe is their Cafe de Olla, which is very tasteful and perfect for when feeling a bit cold.

Cafe de Olla is a sweet coffee drink, made with chocolate and cloves. Preparation is a bit unusual. You steep the coffee grounds with the other ingredients instead of traditional brewing.

Ingredients:

• 8 cups water

• 4 oz ground coffee

• 4 oz brown sugar

• 2 cinnamon sticks

• 3 cloves, whole

• 1 square of semi-sweet chocolate

Preparation:

Boil water in a saucepan, then add cinnamon, cloves, sugar and chocolate. When the mixture comes to a boil, skim off foam. Reduce the heat to a simmer, then add coffee. Steep for 5 minutes then serve.

Café de Olla

Una interesante receta mexicana es su "café de olla," el que es muy sabroso y es perfecto para cuando se pasa frío.

El café de olla es una bebida dulce, hecha con café, chocolate y clavos de olor. Su preparación es un tanto inusual. Se calienta el café en una infusión en vez de ser colado.

Ingredientes:

· 8 tazas de agua

· 4 oz de café molido

• 4 oz de azúcar morena

• 2 palos de canela

• 3 clavos enteros

• 1 cubo de chocolate semi-dulce

Preparación:

Se hierve el agua en una olla, luego se le añade la canela, los clavos, el azúcar y el chocolate. Cuando la mezcla hierva, se le quita la espuma, se pone a fuego bajo y se  añade el café. Se le deja por cinco minutos adicionales y luego se sirve.

The successful closing of the Meet Different Conference shows the excellent capabilities of this destination in hosting large level events

The 2010 Meet Different MPI Conference, held for the first time in Mexico, concluded at the Cancun Visitor's and Convention Center. The event had a total of over one thousand 200 participants from the groups and incentives industry from the United States and Canada.

The director of the Visitor's and Conventions Bureau (OCV), Fernando Cervantes, said that the meeting resulted in 30 additional visits by industry insiders, which might means more international events for the future.

"Cancun has caused a big impression among participants, many of whom did not know Cancun, or had not visited it in a long time, or had a wrong perception of this destination and our country," he said.

Bruce MacMillan, Director General of the Meeting Professional International (MPI), stated "Cancun is a world class destination. Coming here was the best decision we could have taken. It has greatly surpassed our expectations."

MPI has over 23 thousand members in 84 countries, which generate 12 billion dollars annually in the carrying out of conventions all over the globe.

Cancun is an ideal destination for conventions, something it has proven time and again. Among its advantages are its excellent air connections, advanced infrastructure, quality services and the sales tax exeption granted for international events.

The next goal for the OVC will be to bring the World Education Conference on 2015, an even that will group over 4 thousand proffessionals.

Cancún muestra poderío en congresos

El congreso MPI Meet Different 2010, realizado por primera vez en México, llegó a una exitosa conclusión en Cancún, con la participación de más de mil 200 miembros de la industria de grupos e incentivos de Estados Unidos y Canadá, informó la Oficina de Visitantes y Convenciones (OVC) de Cancún.

El Director de Grupos y Convenciones de la OVC de Cancún, Fernando Cervantes Mondragón destacó que este evento ha logrado concretar con buenos resultados más de 30 visitas de inspección, lo que se traducirá en más eventos internacionales a partir de este mismo año.

"Cancún ha causado una grata impresión entre los participantes muchos de los cuales no lo conocían, otros más que hace mucho tiempo que no habían regresado o tenían otra percepción muy equivocada del destino y de nuestro país", refirió el directivo.

Para el Director General de MPI, Bruce MacMillan "Cancún es un destino de clase mundial. El venir aquí es la mejor decisión que pudimos haber hecho. Ha superado por mucho nuestras expectativas."

Cancún es un líder en la organización de eventos, cosa que ha demostrado en numerosas ocasiones. Entre las ventajas competitivas que ofrece Cancún son su conectividad aérea, amplia infraestructura, servicios de calidad y eliminación de IVA para eventos internacionales.

Como siguiente meta, la OVC buscará traer para Cancún la Conferencia Mundial de Educación (WEC por sus siglas en inglés) para el 2015, evento que agrupará a más de 4 mil organizadores de Norteamérica.

The remote village of Xcalak is an undiscovered paradise for anglers

A grand slam (catching bonefish, permit, and tarpon in the same day) is the ultimate goal of flats fishing. There are only a few places in the world that it is even a possibility, and the big bays of the Yucatan—Ascension, Espiritu Santo, and Chetumal—have always been the best bet. The first two are the best known and have well-deserved reputation for the number of slams taken. Of the three, the Bay of Chetumal is the least explored.

The best place to arrive and explore the Bay of Chetumal is the small village of Xcalak, known in the world of diving because of its proximity to Chichorro. Xcalak is still the small fishing village it was 35 years ago. The difference is, it is becoming a haven for the sport flyfishing enthusiast. The Chetumal Bay flats in Xcalak are vastly larger than Ascension Bay further north, offering the fly fisherman more opportunities for more fish. The Chetumal Bay flats produce profound numbers of Bonefish & Permit. Local independent fishing guides make sport flyfishing affordable and enjoyable.

Un "grand slam" (atrapar pez hueso, sábalo y palometa en un mismo día) es el máximo sueño de pescar en bajos. Existen pocos lugares en el mundo en los que siquiera es una posibilidad, y las anchas bahías de la península de Yucatán - Asención, Espíritu Santo y Chetumal - son quizá la mejor opción. Mexico's President Felipe Calderon Monday formally opened the 24-nation Group of Rio Summit in Playa del Carmen, a resort town on Mexico's Caribbean coast, with presidents from most of Latin American in attendance.

In his opening speech, Calderon emphasized plans to create a new united organization for the region, saying that hopes of unity across the Americas was a dream in the early 19th century, when the regions leaders began to fight for their independence from European colonial powers.

"The dream of unity is part of the independence we are celebrating," Calderon said, referring to the celebration Mexico is hosting to mark 200 years of its independence. "And this summit represents an important increase in our integration."

Calderon said in his speech that the summit would debate the forming of a new expanded organization to that would include all those present.

"Today we will be examining the first step, the jumping off point for a new future," Calderon said. "Today we have the opportunity to create a common space for all the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean."

América Latina busca la unidad en la Riviera Maya

El presidente de México Felipe Calderón lanzó un llamado a 25 presidentes y jefes de Estado integrantes de la Cumbre de Río a concretar un nuevo mecanismo único para América Latina y el Caribe, que dejaría fuera a Estados Unidos y Canadá.

Al inaugurar la cumbre de la Unidad de América Latina y el Caribe del Grupo de Río en la Riviera Maya, dijo que se trata de una unión, una comunidad o de una organización, que en esta reunión se debe dar el primer paso.

El Grupo de Río y la Cumbre de América Latina y el Caribe sobre Integración y Desarrollo son dos mecanismos poderosos y podemos convertirlos en uno solo que transforme una sola voz que se alce por América Latina y el Caribe, expuso Calderón.

Cuando nos dividimos y entramos en nuestras frecuentes confrontaciones perdemos todos y nos rezagamos frente a otras naciones del mundo, advirtió el presidente mexicano.

Unidos somos más fuertes, libres y democráticos, pidió, e insistió en que el espíritu de la unidad nos guíe en la noble tarea de unir propósitos y acciones.

"América latina y el Caribe no podemos permanecer desunidos, nos toca unirnos sin demérito de aquello en lo que somos diferentes y sobre lo que pensamos distinto, pero unirnos sí sobre la base de anchas coincidencias que son mucho mayores que nuestras divergencias", aseguró.

Cameron Beckman fired a three-under par 67 on Sunday to win the Mayakoba Classic by two strokes, capturing the third US PGA Tour title of his career.

Beckman, 40, finished with a 15-under par total of 269, adding the title to the Southern Farm Bureau Classic he won in 2001 and the 2008 Frys.com Open title.

Joe Durant, who had led after each of the first three rounds, closed with a 72 to settle for a share of second on 271, alongside Brian Stuard who shot a 66.

"I started off well. I parred the first and birdied the next two and kind of got going a little bit," Beckman said. "I was really uncomfortable off the tee today, and I chipped and putted really well. That's pretty much what got the tournament won for me."

Beckman bogeyed the sixth, pulled a stroke back with a birdie on the par-five eighth and added birdies on 13 and 17.

"There's something about, you know, I'm cruising along playing, and all of a sudden I know I'm tied for the lead," Beckman said.

"That makes you nervous. Now you know you've got a chance to win and you've really got to tighten up and concentrate. A lot of things go through your mind.

"Winning out here is tough," Beckman added. "There's really no easy way do it. I've done it a couple different ways now, but it's a great feeling."

Beckman conquista Mayakoba

Located very close to the fabulous Bacalar lagoon, one of the jewels of the southern half of the state, is the San Felipe Port, an imposing stone construction that is well worth a stop when visiting this beautiful part of the Mayan world.

Fuerte de San Felipe Bacalar (San Felipe Fort) is a 17th-century stone fort built by the Spaniards using stones from the nearby Mayan pyramids. It was constructed as a haven against pirates and marauding Indians, though during the War of the Castes it was a Mayan stronghold.

Today the monolithic structure houses the excellent Museo de la Piratería, a state-of-the-art museum with exhibits on the history of the area with a focus on the pirates who regularly attacked these shores..

El Fuerte pirata de Bacalar

Ubicado muy cerca de la maravillosa laguna de Bacalar, una de las joyas del sur de este estado, está´el Fuerte de San Felipe, una imponente construcción de piedra que vale la pena visitar cuando se está de paseo en este rincón del mundo maya.

El Fuerte de San Felipe Bacalar es una fortaleza construida en el siglo 17 por los españoles utilizando piedras sacadas de pirámides mayas cercanas. Su función era proteger al área de los ataques piratas, que eran bastante frecuentes, aunque durante la Guerra de Castas, funcionó como un bastión maya.

Hoy, la estructura es el hogar del excelente Museo de la Piratería, un muy moderno museo que muestra la historia de la región, con un énfasis especial en los piratas del Caribe que atacaban estas costas con regularidad.

The work and life of Spanish surrealism genius Salvador Dali, who died 21 years ago, is being remembered in the Yucatan capital city of Merida with an exhibition of 93 of the artist's engravings.

"Dali en Merida. Las miradas del sueño" (Dali in Merida: Views of a Dream) is being held at Merida's Olimpo Cultural Center, where the public will be able to enter free until March 23.

The works come from the artistic collection of the La Coruña art museum's foundation, an organization that is collaborating with the Merida city authorities to sponsor the exhibition.

The show is divided into three sections: "The Divine Comedy," comprised of 56 pieces that Dali prepared for the Italian Parliament in 1960, all of which were inspired by the writings of Dante Alighieri; "Fables of La Fontaine," with 12 works prepared in 1974; and "The capricious dreams of Pantagruel de Rabelais," containing 25 fanciful pieces created in 1973.

Simultaneously, courses on engraving, along with lectures, guided tours and the "Buñuel y Dali" film series will be offered to the public.

Salvador Dali en Yucatán

Hace exactamente 21 años murió el pintor surrealista español Salvador Dalí, pero su vida y obra sigue presente. Esta vez su imborrable estela artística está siendo recordada en la ciudad de Mérida, en el estado de Yucatán, con la inauguración de una exposición de 93 grabados del pintor. 

"Dalí en Mérida. Las miradas del sueño", está en el Centro Cultural Mérida Olimpo, a donde el público podrá acceder de forma gratuita hasta el 23 de marzo.

Las obras provienen de la colección artística de la Fundación Museo de Artes del Grabado a la Estampa Digital de La Coruña, instancia que en colaboración con la alcaldía de Mérida propicia la muestra. 

La exposición está divida en tres secciones: La Divina Comedia, compuesta por 56 piezas que el artista elaboró para el Parlamento italiano en 1960, inspirado en los escritos de Dante Allighieri; Fábulas de La Fontaine, con 12 obras ilustrativas de 1974; y Los sueños caprichosos de Pantagruel de Rabelais por 25 piezas creadas en 1973.

Además, a sólo una cuadra de distancia, cruzando la plaza, se encuentra el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Ateneo de Yucatán (MACAY), el que actualmente está exhibiendo las últimas obras de José Luis Cuevas, uno de los mayores figuras del modernismo mexicano, lo que viene a ser un valor añadido a quienes visiten esta hermosa ciudad colonial.

One of the best orchestras in the country will perform in this ancient Mayan city

The National Autonomous Univiersity of Mexico Philharmonic Orchestra (OFUNAM) will offer a concert at the Uxmal arqueological site, a world heritage site, according to Unesco.

The chairman of the sponsorship board, said that the concert will be offered next February 27 at Uxmal.

The concert will include many Mexican musical pieces conducted by maestro Alun Frances who has headed over 200 orchestras in different corners of the world for over 40 years, and is currently the head of OFUNAM.

The event wil be broadcast by TV UNAM.

This is one of the most important musical performances ever given in this arqueological site, located in the heart of the Mayan world in what is known as the "Puuc Route" and that is a World Heritage Site.

Concierto clásico en Uxmal

La Orquesta Filarmónica de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (OFUNAM) dará un concierto en la zona arqueológica mexicana de Uxmal, patrimonio cultural de la humanidad según la Unesco.

El presidente del Patronato Cultur, Jorge Esma Bazán, dijo que el concierto será ofrecido el próximo 27 de febrero en Uxmal.

El concierto incluirá piezas de música mexicana que serán dirigidas por el maestro Alun Francis, quien ha estado al frente de más de 200 orquestas en distintos puntos del mundo, durante más de 40 años de carrera, y actualmente es el titular de la OFUNAM.

El evento será transmitido por TV UNAM de forma regional y por señal nacional.

Se trata de una de las presentaciones más relevantes en esa zona arqueológica, enclavada en la región que se le conoce como la `Ruta Puuc` y que según la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (UNESCO) es patrimonio cultural de la humanidad.

Thirty-one foreign ministers from Latin America and the Caribbean islands on Saturday started in the Mayan Riviera their Unity Summit which will run parallel with two other summits of the region.

High on the agenda is the stocktaking of solidarity in the region while the Caribbean Community (Caricom) will hold its inaugural summit beginning Sunday and the Rio Group will hold its summit beginning Monday.

"We have now agreed upon a common agenda. This shared platform will allow us to overcome obstacles of earlier times," said Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa at the opening session of the Unity Summit.

The Mexican foreign minister said that the unity of the region has an emotional resonance because Mexico and many other nations in the region are celebrating the 200th anniversary of independence or the start of their independence campaigns.

Foreign ministry officials said Saturday that Peruvian President Alan Garcia would not attend the Unity Summit but gave no explanation.

Honduras will not be present either. The Mexican foreign minister has earlier explained that the country could not be invited until the Organization of American States has ruled on the status quo of the country.

Mexican lawmakers have signed a joint declaration with their Cuban counterparts calling for more cooperation and trade between the two countries by lowering import tariffs.

The countries that have sent delegations to the Unity Summit are Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Nevis, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, St. Kitts, Saint Lucia, Surinam, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Inicia la cumbre de río en la Riviera Maya

La presidenta de Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, llegó hoy al aeropuerto internacional de la ciudad mexicana de Cancún y se convirtió en la segunda mandataria en arribar a México, después del paraguayo Fernando Lugo, para la llamada Cumbre de la Unidad.

El encuentro reunirá entre el lunes y el martes a 32 países de América Latina y el Caribe -26 representados por sus gobernantes- en el Hotel Grand Velas de la Riviera Maya, un complejo hotelero de lujo situado al sur de Cancún, cerca de Playa del Carmen, publicó DPA.

Además de Kirchner, que no hizo declaraciones a los periodistas que la esperaban en el aeropuerto, durante el transcurso del día llegará, entre otros, un avión con gobernantes de la Comunidad del Caribe (Caricom), para la primera cumbre entre México y el bloque, que se hará este domingo previo a la reunión general.

Chile asumirá en la Riviera Maya, de manos de México, la secretaría pro témpore del Grupo de Rio por dos años.

El encuentro mexicano engloba las agendas de la II Cumbre de América Latina y el Caribe, que reúne a 32 países, y del Grupo de Río, formado por 24 naciones.

Uno de los principales objetivos es avanzar, por primera vez, hacia la conformación de un bloque regional que agrupe a todos los países del área y que sería una especie de Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA), pero sin Estados Unidos ni Canadá.

At Mercado 28 you will find many ATM´s and banks. Most of the shops will take US Dollars, but very few will take credit cards. If you can't find something just ask, the market has more than 100 stores and shops. The market is located downtown Cancun, you can either take a taxi or take an R-2 or R-15 bus, which will drop you off one block away.

Travelers to Cancun, now have more reasons to shop while on vacation. Cancun's International Airport has officially launched the Tax Back program, located at terminals 2 & 3.

The Tax Back program allows travelers visiting Cancun to cash in taxes paid while shopping at stores such as Armani, Gucci Sunglasses, Tumy, Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, DKNY, United Colors of Benetton, Puma, Sergio Bustamante and Pineda Covalin. Because VAT (Value Added Tax) can only be returned on products, shoppers need to simply ask for a receipt at the participating stores and bring the proof of purchase to the Tax Back service offices at the airport.

The basic rules of operation that the Ministry of Finance (SAT) provides for tax refunds are as follows:

- Purchases must be greater than $1,200 MXN pesos including tax (aprox. US$90), and up to $ 3,000 MXN pesos (aprox. US$225) if paid in cash, or unlimited if you pay with a credit or debit card. You can also accumulate receipts from the same shop during your trip.

- Tax Reimbursement can be 50% in cash and 50% via bank transfer to your debit, services or credit card, (if the reimbursement is above $10,000 MXN pesos (aprox. US$740), this can only be done via an electronic transfer) and this amount will be deposited 40 days after the presentation of the Tax Reimbursement Form.

- If the purchase of goods exceeds the amount of $5,000 MXN pesos (aprox.US$370), Tax Back service executives will ask you to show the goods at the airport.

The marimba as we know it today is an instrument made from tuned wooden plates placed along a keyboard. You could say it is a xylophone with a deeper and broader sound, thanks to the resonating tubes located just below the plates.

Although most historians place the origin of the marimba in Africa, vestiges of something similar to a marimba have also been found in some pyramids in Southeast Mexico and Guatemala.

Currently, the marimba is one of the most representative instruments of the state of Chiapas and one of the most famous instruments of the country, where it is part of the local culture, not just in Chaipas, but also in Oaxaca and part of Veracruz.

From rural marimba players that move from town to town carrying their marimba on their back, to the official conservatories, where the Mexican Marimba is studied just like in Europe, Mexicans have made of this instrument something unmatched and that continues to evolve.

La madera que canta

La marimba, tal y como la conocemos hoy en día en un instrumento hecho de láminas de madera afinadas, dispuestas en forma de teclado. Se podría decir de él que es un Xilófono de sonido grave y amplio, gracias a sus tubos resonadores situados justo debajo de las láminas, para amplificar y redondear el sonido de unas placas de palo de rosa afinadas en disposición cromática.

Aunque la mayoría de historiadores localizan el origen de la Marimba en Africa, proveniente de los balafones e instrumentos similares, también se han encontrado relieves de algo parecido a una marimba en algunas pirámides del sudeste de México y Guatemala.

Lo cierto es que, actualmente es el instrumento más representativo del estado mexicano de Chiapas y uno de los instrumentos más conocidos del país, donde ha pasado a ser algo más que un instrumento. Aunque está muy extendido por el estado de Oaxaca y Parte de Veracruz,

People who lived in ancient Mayan times led a very different life from the one we live today. Their whole existence was centered around religion and ritual, and nothing was carried out if it did not conform to what they saw as celestial plans. While the Mayans did have marriage, the way it was arranged was very different.

Young Mayan bachelors lived not with their families but in the temple, where they received education and helped priests. When they were ready to be married, they usually approached a "negotiator" who then visited both families and arranged for them to meet.

Even though everyone knew the reason for the encounter, during this meeting nobody talked about a possible marriage. Instead, they spoke of the harvest, the weather, or of the latest sacrificial ritual. Hot cacao drinks were served as a show of wealth, since it was an expensive product brought from afar.

Finally, the negotiator, who had kept quiet so far, spoke out bringing the topic of marriage. The long negotiations commensed. The groom had to pay the bride's family for her hand, but the amount depended on the status of both families, setting the stage for drawn out haggling and mutual boasting of status.

The payment was usually met not with money, but with labor. For that reason, the groom had to live with the bride's family for a number of years to work off the debt.

The marriage itself, which took place under good astrological auspices, was a lavish affair, a new part of the house was built to accomodate the young couple, a priest placed insense in the home and offerings were made for the gods.

The families drank balche, a ceremonial drink made with fermented honey, and ate hartily. The next day, the bride made corn tortillas as a sign of fertility and the groom got ready for his first day of work for his father in law.

Kamnicté, la boda maya

Los mayas antiguos llevaban vidas muy distintas a las nuestras. Su existencia estaba casi enteramente centrada en la religión y en los rituales y nada se realizaba si no se conformaba con los planes celestiales. Así, aunque celebraban matrimonios, la forma en que se llevaban a cabo era muy distinta a la de hoy.

Los jóvenes mayas, vivían en una especie de noviciados anexos al templo donde recibían instrucción y ayudaban a sacerdotes.

Para pedir la mano de la novia, los papás de él se hacían acompañar de un negociador. A pesar de que todos conocían el motivo de la entrevista, durante el primer encuentro sostenido entre ambas familias, el tema de la boda no se tocaba en ningún momento; en cambio, se hablaba de la cosecha del maíz, del tiempo, o de los últimos grandes sacrificios rituales. Se servían humeantes cazos de cacao (signo de riqueza y distinción), producto caro que se producía lejos del lugar.

Finalmente, el negociador quien había permanecido en el más completo mutismo, proponía la unión. Cada familia entonces se encargaba de ensalzar a su vástago. Luego venía el terreno de las negociaciones donde el prometido tenía que pagar el precio de la novia generalmente trabajando para el suegro. Todo terminaba con regalos (granos de cacao) y paquetes de algodón para tejer.

En posteriores visitas había cambio de presentes y una rica comida. Tras la buena influencia de los astros y de su influjo en la nueva relación que iba a establecerse, se construía en la parte posterior de la casa de la novia, una choza donde vivirían los recién casados. El sacerdote de la comunidad aromatizaba con incienso tanto la casa como a los contrayentes para después ofrecer a los dioses alimento que los participantes comerían en la ceremonia nupcial.

Para celebrar el enlace, tomaban balché, bebida ceremonial elaborada con aguamiel fermentado. Al día siguiente por la mañana, la desposada preparaba tortillas de maíz, símbolo de fertilidad. El marido, en cambio, hacía sus ofrendas de copal al dios y se preparaba para su primera jornada de trabajo dedicada al suegro.

Chinchorro is the largest and oldest reef in Mexico. Formed millions of years ago; many divers consider it the most beautiful one, both for the diversity of the plant and animal life and for the fact that, unlike other reefs, Chinchorro remains pristine.

Banco Chinchorro lies on the most southern tip of the Mexican Caribbean coast. The area is accessible for diving from the town of Xcalak, on the southern part of the Costa Maya.

Banco Chinchorro is the largest atoll in the northern hemisphere and is part of the Meso American reef system. Banco Chinchorro has been declared an Archaeological Marine sanctuary by the Mexican government. Approximately 30 Km from the mainland lies Banco Chinchorro covering approx. 800 square Km, of which less than one percent is above water.

The atoll is a continuos reef with six entries to the more shallow inside. The shallow inside of the atoll is up to 5 meters deep.

The Chinchorro Reef was known to sailors who dreaded it as early as the colonial period. Traveling from Cartagena, Colombia, to Spain by way of Havana, Cuba required ships to pass close to the bank. The winds and currents of the region worked against them, and many vessels went down at the reef. The remains of at least 18 ships that sank between 1600 and 1800 have been discovered.

Chichorro: el edén de los buceadores

En medio de las aguas oceánicas del Caribe mexicano destaca un sistema arrecifal único, sobre el cual han sido narradas historias y leyendas fabulosas desde tiempos de la Colonia hasta nuestros días: es el Banco Chinchorro, lugar envuelto por el misterio y ubicado a poco más de 30 km de la casi deshabitada costa sur del estado de Quintana Roo, entre los poblados pesqueros de Mahuahual e Xcalak.

Este aislado ecosistema es considerado un atolón coralino, y su nombre deriva del parecido que tiene con una red caribeña semicircular usada para la pesca de escama en aguas costeras. Posee una superficie de casi 800 km2, formados por un afloramiento arenoso de 46 km de largo y 15 de ancho. En su perímetro oriente presenta una interminable barrera de arrecifes con secciones de blancas estelas donde rompen las aguas, y por el oeste éstos son discontinuos y no alcanzan a emerger hasta la superficie. Las aguas de la laguna arrecifal, comunicada con mar abierto, tienen una profundidad promedio de 5 m, pero lo más interesante del lugar es la presencia de tierra firme, que aunque es escasa permite al visitante quedarse en alguno de sus cuatro islotes distribuidos en el centro y los extremos norte y sur.

Mexico's only PGA Tour event is already underway in the Mayan Riviera

The Mayakoba Golf Classic has started! The "Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya - Cancún" is an official PGA TOUR event for which the Mayakoba resort is the title sponsor from 2007 through 2012. The Mayakoba Golf Classic annually features 132 professional golfers participating in a four-round competition, vying for the winner's share of the purse which totals $3.6 million USD.

Perhaps no course on the PGA TOUR offers a more eponymous description than El Camaleon, host of this week's Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun. With so many unique geographical features, it could be mistaken for a tourist attraction with 18 holes. From the jungle to the mangroves to the beach to the cenote in the middle of the fairway on the first hole, El Camaleon most certainly transforms.

The beauty and wonder of El Camaleon puts the grin in grind, but it is much more of the latter. The par-70 played as the 14th-most difficult in relation to par in all of 2009, at +0.642. By comparison, Augusta National and East Lake ranked 15th and 16th, respectively. The short list of champions here is a Who's Who among short-hitting, ball-striking veterans - Fred Funk, Brian Gay and Mark Wilson. There is no reason to believe that the formula will be any different this week. That's one element that won't change.

There will be much interest in the appearance of David Duval who went so close to winning his first event since the 2001 Open Championship when runner up last week at Pebble Beach. All golf fans will be hoping for a continuation of that form for the former world number one.

El Mayakoba Golf Classic presenta anualmente 132 golfistas profesionales participando en una competencia en cuatro fases, por un total en premios de 3.6 millones de dólares.

Probablemente no exista en el tour de la PGA un campo que de mejor descripción por su nombre que "El Camaleón" en donde se desarrolla el Mayakoba Golf Classic. Con un gran número de variedades geográficas, es fácil pensar que se trata de una atracción turística con 18 hoyos. El campo va variando de manglar a jungla a playa a cenote, y esto es tan sólo en el primer hoyo. El Camaleon ciertamente sabe transformarse.

La belleza de Camaleon distrae de la ardua tarea, pero las dificultades no cesan. El par-70 fue considerado como el 14º más difícil en el 2009, por delante del Augusta National y el East Lake. La breve lista de campeones en este evento es impresionante: Fred Funk, Brian Gay y Mark Wilson. No hay razón para creer que este año no traerá otro gran nombre a la lista.

Merida has been a popular real estate destination for North Americans looking for homes in a colonial city, which includes highly developed infrastructure and excellent services in terms of health care, stores and activities. Planean tren rápido para Mérida y Campeche

El primer viaje de este nuevo tren se espera para el 12 de diciembre del 2012, y se espera que mobilize a 8 mil 300 pasajeros por día. El tren tendrá servicio de primer, segunda y tercera.
